’19 Fantasy Baseball Week 4

fantasypennant

The fourth week of Yahoo’s Fantasy Baseball covered games between Monday, April 22 to Sunday, April 28, 2019. After spending seven days in the first place, the free fall continues as back to back losses knock Ondskans Imperium down another spot to fourth overall. Injuries, whether long term or day to day continue to hinder the team in the score columns and in the win column.

Transactions

Amazingly, we didn’t make a single transaction this past week. Our watch list grew a couple of guys to 23 players we are interested in. Much to our surprise, two players we coveted in the draft are now free agents. They are both not producing, hence why they were dropped. We will keep an eye on them and see what happens.

We did take a few minutes to figure out what ratio of hitters and batters on each team. We are in the middle of the pack with 13 hitters and 9 pitchers. Every organization has at least 11, or more hitters and only four teams have 10 or more pitchers. Nine out of the ten teams have players on the Injured List. We currently have two.

Matchup and Scores

Ondskans Imperium took on defending league champion ItsNotRyanItsRyne in week four and trailed the entire week, but made things really interesting on Sunday. We knew the matchup was all but over headed to the weekend because we only had one pitcher starting and they had seven. In the end, the matchup really could have gone either way, the numbers were really that close. Day to day injuries really hampered our chances at the plate and in the end, and we lost.

Standings and Team Stats

week4standingsAs week four came to a close, we still have a winning record and sit in the last playoff spot. It feels pretty good to be where we are at, but we need to get better and put some wins together and get some breathing room, so the dog days of summer don’t catch up to us.

Like last week, we are not where we want to be in terms of team stats. The hitting categories are not our biggest concern, and we are number one batting average, which is our goal. The pitching department is where we need to improve. Our staff are just not getting wins and saves. During the draft, we honestly thought we got the cream of the crop in terms of starters and reliefs, it is just not showing every week.

Where the Matchup is Won and Loss: The Bench Players

It can be argued that we lost the match up by leaving five runs and five RBIs on the bench. We lost each of those categories by a handful of points. Some of these guys were listed as Day to Day and ended up playing in the game the day they were on the bench. These same guys would get a hit one day and then nothing the next. Their stats were not convincing enough to deserve regular playing time.

Players: Best and Worse

Best Hitter: David Peralta (OF – Arizona) had the best week of all the hitters by scoring 15 points for the team. He collected 6 R / 1 HR / 8 RBI / 0 SB and batted 0.268.

Worse Hitter: Nick Markakis (OF – Atlanta) scored two points while being in the line up for five out of seven days. He collected a run and an RBI despite batting 0.350 for the week.

Best Pitcher: Justin Verlander (SP – Houston) was our best pitcher for the third straight week. He collected a win and struck out eight, his ERA was 1.13, and his WHIP was 0.50. Teammate Gerrit Cole scored 10 strikeouts in his outing but didn’t pick up a win, and his ERA (2.57) and WHIP (0.86) were both higher.

Worse Pitcher: Blake Treinen (RP – Oakland) had one awful game and saw his numbers blow up. He collected a save and struck out two during the week, but his 13.50 ERA and 3.38 were disastrous. He is part of relief pitcher problems.
