’19 Fantasy Baseball Week 9

fantasypennant

The ninth week of Yahoo’s Fantasy Baseball covered games between Monday, May 27 to Sunday, June 2, 2019. Ondskans Imperium lost to the last place team The Fast & The Grego. The loss is second straight series defeat and third out of the previous four.

TRANSACTIONS

On May 27, we had to cut ties with Shohei Ohtani (UTIL – LAA). Despite his best efforts and the fact he would eventually become the first Japanese player to hit for the cycle, he was literally bogging down our utility spot with no production. In his place, we needed a shortstop and selected Nick Ahmed (SS – ARI) off waivers. Considering all our other shortstops were on the IL, we required coverage at the position.

Also on the same day, we added Didi Gregorius (SS – NYY) who was scheduled to return from Tommy John surgery in a few games. To make room for the returning Yankees shortstop, we dropped injured Andrelton Simmons (SS – LAA) who served us well during his time with the team.

MATCHUP AND SCORESweek9boxscore

Baseball is a game of numbers. When a team doesn’t put up enough numbers, they usually come out on the losing end. The highlight of the week had to be the 91 strikeouts we accumulated.

As you can see, we were terrible in all the hitting categories. How we managed to not get shut out by the 10th place team is a miracle. This was the week when we took a long look at the lineup. Considering the free fall in the standings, we needed a change.

We stumbled out of the gate and never recovered. The matchup had highs and lows, which left us heading into Sunday with hopes of making a series out of it. In the end, the bats didn’t show up, and we bowed out gracefully.

STANDINGS AND TEAM STATS

week9standings

It only seemed like yesterday, but we had a 10-0 week and sat in first. Now we are 11 games out of the penthouse and 3.5 games out of a playoff spot. That also leaves us seven games out of the last place in the league. Our matchup record dropped to 2-5-2, which is one of the worse series records in the league.

If our mission was to finish in 10th place in every offensive category, we are closing in on the clean sweep. We had hoped to make the playoffs for the first time, but these numbers will not get us there.

THE BENCH PLAYERSweek9bench

As the purge has begun, we had no one on the bench worth playing. David Peralta was injured and never got into any games. Since we stocked up on pitching, he ended up being the only guy left on our player’s bench.
