’19 Canyon of Heroes Week 10

The Canyon of Heroes three-game winning streak come to an end in week 10. The Heroes lost 7-4-1 to a team they are chasing, Vin Weasel.

The four category wins ties a season-low, which we have achieved on four other occasions.

MATCHUP AND SCORES

As you can see from the matchup scores, Heroes managed to save face by their goalies. We won three of the four of those categories and tied the shutouts.

In 2eek nine, we were beaten by 11 points in the plus/minus category, so as fate would have it, that’s how many points we collected in week 10.

When you add up the difference in goals (6) and assists (7), you’ll see why we lost the points category by 13. We were outscored on the powerplay by four and game-winning goals by three.

We actually struggled in two of our stronger categories, shots on goals (30 point difference) and hits (14 point difference).

We’d have to look back to see how long ago it was, but for the first time in a while, we trailed every day during the matchup.

STANDINGS & TEAM STATS

The loss allowed Nailed to the Boards and Barkov at the Moon to creep upon us. We trail fourth-place Killer Bs by three points and sit only five out points out of eighth place.

19canyonstats10.pngSomething funny happened in week 10.

We still only rank in the top 10 in three of the eight offensive categories, but we dropped down a few spots in shots on goal and jumped up in goals for. We haven’t changed any of our players, so the switch is something to keep an eye for. Maybe we have finally turned a corner.

As far as goaltender stats are concerned, we remain in the same exact positions as the previous week.

BENCH PLAYERS

Saturday proved to be a tough day in terms of who got to play and who had to sit. Those decisions only cost us a few points here and there, but nothing that would have altered the final outcome.

Thankfully we sat the right goalies. Martin Jones (San Jose) had a miserable game against the New York Rangers, but Jaroslav Halak brought some respect to our bench by beating the Flordia Panthers.

STUDS & DUDS

Best Player – Alex Ovechkin – Washington Capitals – 31 points

Worse Player: Jared McCann – Pittsburg Penguins – 3 points
