’19 Canyon of Heroes Week 17

As the 2019-20 fantasy hockey season winds down, Canyon of Heroes waited until Week 17 to lose their focus and get destroyed 10-1-1.

The loss is by far our worse of the season. With only five weeks left, it appears the guys are already planning their summer adventures rather than focus on the task at hand.

MATCHUP AND SCORES

When you lose any game or matchup in a slaughter like the one we faced in Week 17, the numbers are hard to look at.

We lost goals by six, assists by 11, which leads to a 17 overall point difference (40-23). Even though we were a plus team (+6) for the third straight week, they were even better with a +11 rating. Gregory’s Team also racked up 11 power-play points to our two.

The closest we got to winning another category was game-winning goals, 2-1. In one of our worse differences of the season, we lost shots on goal 118-86 for a gap of 32.

They also outplayed us in between the pipes where they combined for a 2.01 GAA and a 0.936 save percentage. Meanwhile, our guys must have a sunburn on their necks from all the red lights going on behind them. Our 3.29 GAA was the second-highest total of our season, while our 0.899 save percentage was only the sixth time we failed to reach the coveted 0.900 marks.

Our only win came in the hit department, where we won by a comfortable 22 points. Both teams combined for three goalie wins apiece. That performance extended our record in that category (our best) to 13-1-3.

The matchup started out a mess and, except for Thursday, was never in question. Usually, we wait to blow it on the weekend, but this week the guys started early.

STANDINGS & TEAM STATS

Since our win in week nine, Canyon of Heroes has gone 1-6-1 and still somehow sits in 10th place. After this week’s massacre, the gap between us and the playoffs has jumped to 26 points. Meanwhile, a 32 point difference is all that keeps us out of the cellar.

There isn’t a whole lot that has changed in terms of team statistics. The most significant change in our overall numbers is our GAA and Save %. With a lousy showing this past week between the pipes, we dropped down to 10th and 9th overall in those categories. It wasn’t that long ago we were also the kings of those categories.

Things stayed the status quo in the offensive categories, with one jump in spots. Last week we were the 3rd best team in regards to hits. Now we are the second-best.

BENCH PLAYERS

In week 17, we left three points on the bench. Ryan Getzlaf’s points would have had zero impact on the final score. Since we lost so many categories by more than five points, it would be hard to overcome any of those deficits.

STUDS & DUDS

Best Player – Mika Zibanejad – New York Rangers – 28 points

Worse Player: Jacob Trouba – New York Rangers – 7 points

TRANSACTIONS

February 4th, 2020

After adding one of our goalies on the Injured Reserve list, we had a roster spot available. While browsing the free-agent pool, we selected Boston Bruin defenseman, Brandon Carlo. He is +19 on the season, and we hope he can contribute in that one category.

Weekly Move Total: 1/4
